Is it possible to link or pair two NTS 02-G/NTS 03-G units to each other for backup or redundancy?
Using IRIG-B
Each NTS unit has both and IRIG-B input and output. If you connect one units input into the other units output, this will allow time information to be transferred between the two. The NTS will also automatically use the IRIG-B input if GPS/GNSS signal is lost.
Using NTP
If you connect an Ethernet port on one NTS to another Ethernet port on another NTS, time information can be transffered between them using NTP or PTP. To use NTP the NTP client function must be enabled and configured with the IP address of the other Ethernet port. The NTS will automatically use the time information provided if GPS/GNSS signal is lost.
Comparing the two
NTP/PTP is the preferred method as it includes delay compensation making it a better alternative to IRIG-B over long distances. The advantages of using IRIG-B however is that it does not require a network connection and does not use any network capacity.
