Tekron offer an optional lightning protection kit for use with GPS/GNSS clocks. This kit includes a NexTek FPLNFNFBP05 lightning arrestor.
If a GPS/GNSS clock is failing to receive satellite signals and/or is reporting an antenna alarm, and a lightning arrestor is installed, the arrestor should be tested according to the following procedure.
Step-by-step guide
Testing the FPLNFNFBP05
- Visual
- Check exposed side connector for any signs of discoloration or damage from high energy events
- What orientation do you have the protector installed?
- Is the exposed side pointing towards the antenna and the protected side pointing towards the clock?
- Multimeter
- DC Thru-Continuity – Since this is a DC Pass unit, there is a continuous thru-path for DC energy which can be verified with a multimeter – Pin to Pin
-
Points to test:
-
Can you please measure the resistance between A1 and A2 (this should be 0 resistance)
-
The resistance between A1 and B1 (this should be infinite resistance)
-
The resistance between A2 and B2 (this should be infinite resistance)
